Key Stage 1: postcards, plants and texture rubbings

Key Stage 1 have been writing postcards, investigating roots, making lanterns and finding textures around school.
It has been another busy fortnight in Key Stage 1.
Cherry and Elm classes have been putting their phonics skills into practice by writing postcards inspired by Mrs Armitage and the Big Wave, thinking about her feelings, the activities she did and the weather at the beach. In Science, both classes investigated roots, including root vegetables, and found out what the roots of a plant do.
Cherry Class have also been comparing numbers using greater than, less than and equal to. In RE, they explored why light is important in different religions and what it means to Hindu people, then made their own lanterns. In Geography, they became photographers for the day, taking ground-level photos around school. Elm Class have been estimating on a number line and recapping teen numbers, working out how many tens and ones each number has.
In Hazel Class, Year 2 finished writing their dragon 'Wanted' posters and began a unit on trickster tales, using Stan and the Dragon to plan tricks of their own. In Maths, they finished their place value unit, comparing numbers on number lines to 100. A highlight was hunting for textures in the courtyard to make rubbings in Art, a brilliant example of our value of Creativity.
