Accessibility Statement
This website is run by The Flitch Green Academy and this statement applies to www.theflitchgreenacademy.co.uk. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
-
change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
-
zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
-
navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
-
listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
Accessibility Features
-
Responsive Design: Our website is designed to work on various devices and screen sizes, including desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones.
-
Keyboard Navigation: The website is navigable via keyboard to accommodate users who cannot use a mouse.
-
Text Readability: We use clear and legible fonts, and you can make text larger.
-
Alternative Text: We are adding text descriptions to the images on the website so that screen reader users can understand them.
-
High Visibility Version: A high-contrast version of every page is available from the link at the bottom of each page.
HOW ACCESSIBLE THIS WEBSITE IS
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- some older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software, and some are scanned images
- some images do not yet have a text description
- some text is shown as an image, including the Year 6 quotes on the Principal’s Welcome page, the class table on the Class Structure and Assessment page, and the volunteer role posters on the Volunteers page
- some download links do not describe the document they open
- the text in the dropdown menus does not have enough colour contrast
REQUESTING INFORMATION IN A DIFFERENT FORMAT
If you need information on this website in a different format, such as a paper copy, large print or an accessible PDF, please contact us using the details below. We will consider your request and aim to reply within 5 working days. Paper copies of any information on this website are available free of charge.
NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE ACCESSIBILITY REGULATIONS
School exemption
Primary and secondary schools are partially exempt from the accessibility regulations. The exemption does not cover content people need in order to use the school’s services, such as forms.
Non-compliant content
-
Images: some images do not yet have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text content). We are adding text alternatives to all images and will fix any we miss if you tell us.
-
Images of text: some information is shown as an image of text (listed above). This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.5 (Images of text). We are replacing these with text.
-
Tables: the class table on the Class Structure and Assessment page is an image, so it has no table headings for screen readers. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships). We are replacing it with a text table.
-
Links: some download links do not say which document they open. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link purpose). We are updating these so each link shows the document’s name.
-
Colour contrast: the text in the dropdown menus does not meet the minimum contrast ratio. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast, minimum). We are working with our website provider to fix this.
-
PDF documents: some older PDF documents, including scanned documents, are not fully accessible to screen readers. We will provide an accessible version of any document on request. New documents we publish will be accessible.
Ongoing Efforts
We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our website by:
- Screen reader compatibility: our website has been built to work with screen readers, and we will work with our website provider to make improvements where needed.
- Regular reviews: we will review the website’s accessibility at least once a year.
- User feedback: we will use feedback from visitors to improve accessibility.
- Keeping up to date: we will keep up to date with accessibility standards and good practice.
Third-Party Content
Some content on our website comes from other organisations, or links to their websites, and may not fully meet accessibility standards. Please contact us if you have difficulty accessing any of it.
Enforcement procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you're not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
