Key Stage 1: Mrs Armitage, colour mixing and castles

A painted colour wheel showing primary and secondary colours

Cherry, Elm and Hazel classes have started the year designing bikes, mixing colours, learning about castles and building their place value skills.

Key Stage 1 have made a fantastic start to the year in Cherry, Elm and Hazel classes.

In Cherry and Elm, the children have been exploring Mrs Armitage on Wheels. They designed their own bikes and used their phonics knowledge to label them with nouns and adjectives. In Maths, they explored numbers within 10 using hands-on resources and pictures, and Elm Class have been working hard on spelling number words correctly. Elm Class put their labelling skills to work in Geography too, and Cherry Class loved experimenting with primary colours in Art, mixing them to create secondary colours.

In Year 2, Hazel Class kicked off with dragon descriptions, choosing exciting adjectives to build expanded noun phrases. This linked to their new history and geography topic all about castles, including why William the Conqueror had so many castles built in medieval Britain. In Maths, they have been consolidating place value, placing tens and ones into a place value chart and representing numbers in different ways.
