Lower Key Stage 2: Ancient Egypt, poetry and London Then and Now

Year 3 place value work with base ten blocks

Maple, Oak and Poplar classes have been exploring Ancient Egyptian chronology, writing poems about homelessness and drawing in the style of Stephen Wiltshire.

Lower Key Stage 2 have had a great start to the year.

In Year 3, Maple Class began their Ancient Egyptian topic by learning about chronology. It's fascinating to think how long the Ancient Egyptian period lasted and how many other significant periods of world history it overlapped with! In English, they have been building their writing skills ready to create their own stories based on The Book Eating Boy, and in Maths they have been building, representing and writing 3-digit numbers.

Oak Class showed wonderful empathy as they wrote moving poems exploring homelessness. In whole-class reading, they have been on the edge of their seats finding out whether Tuffy really is a killer cat! They also found their balance in PE and reflected on what it means to be a supportive team player in PSHE.

Poplar Class worked together to perform their class poem about homelessness with real empathy. They have been partitioning and representing 3-digit and 4-digit numbers, and started their history and geography topic, London: Then and Now, by placing the Victorian period on a timeline. In Art, they showed resilience and determination drawing from memory in the style of the artist Stephen Wiltshire.
