School Improvement

School development summary

Our plan sets out what we will do this year to help every pupil thrive. It focuses on three top priorities and a small number of clear actions so staff and governors can work together to make measurable improvements.

Our top three priorities

  1. Safeguarding — make sure every child is safe, staff have up‑to‑date training and our systems and records are robust.
  2. Attendance & behaviour — reduce persistent absence, improve day‑to‑day routines and ensure pupils are in school ready to learn.
  3. Achievement — raise standards in reading, writing and mathematics so pupils are well prepared for their next steps.

What we will do (leaders)

  • Maintain up‑to‑date safeguarding arrangements, audit the single central record regularly and ensure all required training is completed.
  • Monitor attendance weekly, target support for pupils with high absence (including tailored plans for pupils with additional needs) and tighten responses to term‑time absence.
  • Provide leaders and subject leads with time and training to check curriculum plans are being delivered as intended and to use assessment information to target support.
  • Improve governance oversight: governors will receive regular reports and a clear monitoring timetable linked to these priorities.

What staff will do in classrooms and around school

  • Deliver a sequenced, well‑planned curriculum that builds knowledge step by step; prioritise reading fluency, handwriting, spelling and number facts.
  • Use a consistent lesson structure and classroom approaches (modelling, check for misconceptions, oracy routines) so pupils know what good learning looks like.
  • Follow a graduated approach for additional needs: set and review One‑Plan targets termly and use evidence‑based interventions with clear success measures.
  • Apply behaviour routines consistently, teach social skills and use same‑day restorative conversations so the learning environment is calm and positive.

What this means for your child

  • More time in class learning the planned curriculum and fewer unnecessary withdrawals.
  • Timely, targeted support when a pupil falls behind, with clear short‑term goals and regular review.
  • Faster help for children whose attendance or emotional needs are affecting learning, with a named adult where needed.
  • A continued focus on safety, wellbeing and enrichment activities that build confidence and wider skills.

How we will measure progress

  • Regular assessment and termly data reviews to check pupil progress, with particular attention to pupils who receive Pupil Premium or SEN support.
  • Weekly attendance monitoring and targeted interventions for those at risk of persistent absence.
  • Termly reports to governors on the three priorities and evidence of impact from interventions and improvement work.

How parents can help

  • Ensure your child attends school unless genuinely unwell and inform us promptly of reasons for absence.
  • Read with your child regularly and support homework routines.
  • Keep us informed about any concerns (health, family or emotional) so we can put appropriate support in place.
  • Take part in consultations (surveys, school parliament, parent events) so your views shape our priorities.
