Reception: Funny Bones, 12 sounds and Forest Area adventures

Reception have been learning about their bodies through Funny Bones, reaching 12 phonics sounds and exploring the changing seasons outdoors.
This week, Apple and Beech classes have been learning all about our bodies through the story Funny Bones. The children explored different body parts, made their own skeletons and learned why our bones are so important.
In Maths, they explored how numbers can be made from smaller parts, investigating the different ways 3 and 4 can be composed and decomposed. In Phonics, they learned the sounds g, o, c and k, which means they have now learned an amazing 12 sounds!
The children have loved their handwriting sessions, using ribbons and sensory trays while practising their tripod grip. In Art, they made marks with chalk, experimenting with lines, shapes and patterns. In PSHE, they planted cress seeds to take home and learned about responsibility and caring for living things.
They also had lots of fun in our Forest Area, enjoying the outdoors and noticing how things are changing as the seasons begin to turn.
