Pupil Parliament
What is Pupil Parliament?
The Flitch Green Academy Pupil Parliament gives children a real voice in school life. It works like a local council or parliament, but for pupils: each class elects a representative, who shares their classmates' ideas, raises issues and helps shape decisions about the school.
What it's for
- Working and learning together
- Learning about democracy, citizenship and leadership
- Being a positive role model in our community
- Improving our school for everyone
How it works
- Each class elects a Pupil Parliament representative.
- The Parliament meets regularly, with an agenda, to discuss pupils' ideas and agree priorities.
- Representatives gather views from their class, put forward proposals and vote on what to do.
- They share outcomes with the rest of the school and help check that changes are working.
- Where appropriate, their views feed into decisions by senior leaders and governors.
What we talk about
Topics can include school lunches (menu ideas and how food is served), behaviour and rewards, which charities and good causes to fundraise for, playground activities, clubs, anti-bullying and wellbeing.
Everyone can help
Every pupil can play a part by spotting things they'd like to change, suggesting ways to make things better, and helping to put ideas into action. Being a parliamentarian is a responsible job, and we rely on our representatives to share pupils' views with the wider school community.
